BASIS Education Group was founded in 1998 in the United States by the world-class economists Michael and Olga Block. It is an education group dedicated to cultivating students’ international vision and speculative thinking. BASIS Education Group has established 50 schools in the United States, China, Southeast Asia and Europe, providing educational services to more than 30,000 students.

BASIS International School Guangzhou opened in September 2017 and is the second BASIS Curriculum School outside of the U.S. It is able to accommodate 1,000 students from PreK-1 to Grade 12.

In PreK-1 and PreK-2 the learning environment is carefully designed to encourage a child’s natural curiosity to create, discover, and ask questions. Teachers encourage children to ask creative questions and to use their own reasoning to learn from and make connections to the world around them.

In Kindergarten, a Subject Expert Teacher (SET), a Learning Enhancement Teacher (LET), and a dedicated classroom assistant guide students to master the foundations of traditional academic subjects. Students also engage in enrichment courses that help them make connections between their subject classes. Kindergarten thoroughly prepares students for success throughout the rest of their academic journey by developing basic skills, scholarly habits, and love of learning.

Starting in grade 1, students have two teachers present for all core subjects: an SET and an LET. An SET, specializing in a particular discipline, will lead content instruction for their particular subject. An LET, on the other hand, guides students to each class, focuses on effective pedagogy, and co-teaches with each SET.

In Middle School, students complete a rigorous schedule in all core disciplines, including three separate, concurrent science classes (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). SETs partner with the Head of Division and Deans to ensure students are set up for success in coursework.

When we teach students that knowledge is a tool to advance their understanding, students become motivated to use the facts and skills to find solutions to real world problems. Middle school classes develop independence and critical thinking skills in our students to help them identify challenges, take advantage of opportunities, and collaborate to find solutions in their courses, school life, and community.

High School (Grade 9 to Grade 12)

In the core disciplines of High School, Honors is the minimum level offered, with a large percentage of courses taken at the Advanced Placement (AP) level starting in grade 9. Students further develop their ability to think and work independently in post-AP courses, G12 Capstone courses, and independent research projects throughout their high school career.

The college counseling team is actively involved in helping students navigate the course selection process throughout high school and is instrumental in guiding students to discover the right university and ready their applications.

The class of 2021 was the first graduating class for BASIS International School Guangzhou. This class of 35 students received 252 college offers. 71% of students received offers from schools ranked Top 30 in the US News and World Report and/or UK schools ranked Top 5 in Times Higher Education. In addition, 93% of students were admitted to US Top 50 and/or UK Top 5 schools.

2021年廣州貝賽思國際學校迎來了創校首屆畢業生，一共35人，收到了252封錄取通知書。71%的學生成功錄入美國排名前30和/或英國前5的大學；93%學生錄入美國排名前50和/或英國前5的大學（《美國新聞與世界報道》、《泰晤士高等教育》）。

The class of 2022 also showed extraordinary strength in their college applications. The 56 graduates received 342 offers. 64% gained admission to Top 30 US universities and/or Top 5 UK universities and/or the top Canadian university. 96% of students received offers from Top 50 US universities and/or Top 10 UK universities and/or Top 3 Canadian universities. In addition, our students received three offers from Ivy League schools, seven from Top 10 US universities, four from Top 10 US liberal arts colleges, ten from Top 5 UK universities, and 15 from the top Canadian university.

And as for the Class of 2023, they are off to a great start as they are just finishing their final round of applications. This group of 42 students has already earned offers to Top 10 US News and World Report Universities, Liberal Arts Colleges, and the Ivy League.

School Activities

In order to promote and explore students’ interests and hobbies, BIGZ has held a series of exciting clubs (covering PreK2 to G12), which can be categorized into three types: teacher-led, student-led and vendor-led. In the 2022-23 school year, BIGZ ran more than 80 clubs. Many club activities are also associated with off-campus competitions. The school highly encourages and supports students to actively sign up for clubs that are closely tied with their interests and hobbies, and the faculty is eager to share their interests and expertise. Clubs led by students cultivate leadership and organizational skills, helping students to get ready for college and preparing them to make an impact.

為廣泛培養和充分發掘學生的興趣愛好，廣州貝賽思外籍人員子女學校舉辦了一系列精彩紛呈的俱樂部（涵蓋PreK 2至12年級），包括教師主辦、學生主辦以及校外機構主辦三種類型。2022-23學年，校內共開設80余種不同類型的俱樂部。許多俱樂部活動也與各類校外比賽相關。學校鼓勵并大力支持學生根據自己的興趣愛好踴躍報名俱樂部。由高中生主導的俱樂部更是有利于培養學生領導能力和組織能力，助力學生的大學生涯和更長遠的發展。

In additional to hobbies and interest clubs, BIGZ prides itself on holistically developing students by striking a balance between academics and sports. There are a variety of core and non-core sports that are offered seasonally. Core sports include basketball, volleyball and soccer, and non-core sports include badminton, tennis, table tennis, ultimate frisbee and touch rugby. As of the 2022-2023 school year, BIGZ is a member of the GISSA, GISES and PRC athletic leagues.

廣州貝賽思國際學校以兼顧學術和體育能力為目標，促進學生的全方位發展。為鼓勵學生積極參與籃球、足球、排球、羽毛球、網球、乒乓球、極限飛盤、觸式橄欖球等不同的體育活動和競賽，學校通過校隊選拔為充滿熱情的學生提供展現個人能力的機會。截至2022-2023 學年，廣州貝賽思國際學校已經加入兩個市級體育聯盟（廣州國際學校體育聯盟及廣州國際學校小學體育協會）和省級體育聯盟（珠江國際學校協會），為學生提供更多參加高水平競技比賽的機會。

Boarding Program

As the first boarding school within the BASIS Curriculum Schools network, BASIS International School Guangzhou has extensive experience in dormitory management, boarding event organization, evening study programs, boarding specific extracurricular activities, and pastoral care. We currently have 148 dorm rooms with a total of 309 beds allocated for boarders in middle and high school.

House Parents support boarders’ after-school learning and extra-curricular activities by designing a wide range of engaging activities. They aim to give students more opportunities to make friends, relax and explore their passions outside the classrooms. They also work closely with the school faculty, nurses, counselors and logistics staff members to provide support for all aspects of student life.
